Problem Rendering Images in Frontend

[SOLVED!]

Hi all, Firstly, very sorry i do not speak German, but this seems to be the only really active TYPO3 forum i could find on the net, and I hope you can all help me out.

The problem i'm having is with images in page content (filelinks, or image content types etc.) in the frontend. They appear fine when displayed at their actual resolution, but as soon as the are resized for a thumbnail, or i simply try to reduce their height / width, they do not appear in thefront end!?

Was wondering if anyone else has this problem or any idea as to what might be going on?!

If it helps, I built the site basically following the modern template building 1 tutorial, using TYPO3 Ver. 4.0, and use the following extensions;

htmlArea RTE
Media (DAM) dam
BE-login simulation for fe-users
CSS styled content
CSS styled Filelinks dam_frontend
PMK SlimBox pmkslimbox
Ajax Searching Engine
Indexed Search Engine
New front end login box
SmoothGallery for TYPO3
Template Auto-parser
Foldout Menu
Table Library table
xaJax
TYPO3 skin

Thanks alot in advance! cheers, will.

hi Will,
what does the install-tool checks (item 1: basic configuration) say about the grafical support?

- GDlib ok?
- GIF / PNG-Support ok?
- FreeType ok?
- Image Magick ok?

Did you run the ImageProcessing Tests in install tool (item 4: Image Processing)

It seems, that your installation ist not ok yet. Please check.

Thank you so much for replying Jens, and no i hadnt tried any of these tests!

With the basic configuration, GDlib, gif/png support, freetype and ImageMagick are all OK.

With the Image Processing tests on the other hand, they all fail, ( saying "There was no result from the ImageMagick operation") with the exception of the "5: GD library functions", which work fine. (Does this imply the problem lies with ImageMagick? Please excuse my ignorance, I'm new to typo3!)

The Image processing configurations are as follows:

ImageMagick enabled: 1
ImageMagick path: /usr/X11R6/bin/ ()
ImageMagick path/LZW: /usr/bin/ (6.0.7)
Version 5/GraphicsMagick flag:

GDLib enabled: 1
GDLib using PNG: 0
GDLib 2 enabled: 0
IM5 effects enabled: 0 (Blurring/Sharpening with IM 5+)
Freetype DPI: 96 (Should be 96 for Freetype 2)
Mask invert: 0 (Should be set for some IM versions approx. 5.4+)

File Formats: gif,jpg,jpeg,tif,bmp,pcx,tga,png,pdf,ai

Any suggestions as to where to head from here?
Cheers once again! Will.

Hi Will,

Yes.

Please try to set this value to 1. There are trouble with different Image M. versions. The setting of some Typo3 configuration variables has to depend on which version of IM ist implemented in your webbrowser.

If that doesn´t work, you probably have to play with some typo3 IM config vars. You can reach them through installaton - item 5: All configuration - first section [GFX]. There are the variables for the grafical capabilities of your configuration. Read the differnt remarks to Image Magick, started with [im] to [im_noFramePrepended].

Hm, I have tried a variety of different settings as per your suggestion, but with no luck.

I tried installing another version of typo3 (using fantastico), as well as updating the existing installation to 4.1 which both also failed.

Any other suggestions? Would it be worth trying to reinstall image magick, or perhaps graphics magick? (and if so is there a resource you would recomend that describes how to do this?) Thanks again - Will

I think, it has to be your Image Magick installation itself, or the IM settings in typo3 configuration.

After Installing typo3 I had some problems myself with IM. At first I misunderstood some comments in the GFX-configutation section, but at last the right configuration of the IM vars solved all my problems.

No other suggestions, but perhaps google "typo3 image magick problems" may show you a lot of other answers.

Good luck
Jens

[solved!]

aha!

simply changing the image magick install path from usr/xr611/bin (or whatever it was), to usr//bin as per a suggestion from http://forum.siteground.com/archive/...php/t-505.html, solved the problem!

Thanks so much for your help along the way Jens,
-Will
